    Brief CV:

    She is a Canadian writer and critic, and Professor of Creative Writing, Canadian Literature, and Contemporary Narrative at the University of Calgary (Canada). She has published several novels, including Judith (1978), winner of the Seal First Novel Award; The Tent Peg (1981); No Fixed Address (1986), shortlisted for the Governor General's Award; and Places Far from Ellesmere (1990). She has also published two collections of essays: In Visible Ink (crypto-frictions) (1991) and A Frozen Tongue (1992). Her book Mavericks: An Incorregible History of Alberta (2001), was awarded the Grant MacEwan Author Prize and inspired a permanent exhibition at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. Van Herk belongs to the Royal Canadian Society since 1997, and has participated as jury in numerous literary awards, such as the Governor General's Award and the Commonwealth Literary Prize. Her creative writing and critical work has significantly contributed to the literary canon of Alberta and Canada, for which she was invested with the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2011.
