    Brief CV:

    She holds an MA in Visual Anthropology and Fine Arts from the University of Temple (Philadelphia) and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University (New Jersey). She is an awarded filmmaker, as well as writer, critic and professor. She is currently Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Columbia, where she is also director of the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Race. She has won fellowships for her film work and her research from institutions such as the Social Science Research Council or the Andy Warhol Foundation. Some of her most acclaimed films are AIDS in the Barrio, Brincando el charco: Portrait of a Puerto Rican, and War in Guam. She has extensively contributed to the field of Latin-American and Caribbean studies in the US with the publication, for instance, of the co-edited anthology Puerto Rican Jam: Rethinking Colonialism and Nationalism; or the renowned collection of essays Boricua Pop: Puerto Ricans and the Latinization of American Culture (2004).
